We Screen at the 12th Native Spirit Film Festival Oct. 17, 2018 in London

Pleased to announce our official selection for the 12th Native Spirit Film Festival, Oct. 11-21, 2018 in London, England. My first feature length documentary, “Forget Winnetou! Loving in the Wrong Way” will screen on Oct. 17th, at the historic Senate House, followed by a Q&A. Hopefully, our film team and some participants will also make the trip to talk more about how and why the issue of Native stereotypes and the practice of stereotyping is connected to racism, sexism and other intersecting oppression tactics. “Special guest panel with Director Red Haircrow and documentary team members: Natasha John Diné (Navajo), Johnny Clyde (Purepecha/Mezica), Viveka Frost (Teques/Caribe).”

Book Launch July 5, 2018 in #Berlin- “Geschichte Schreiben” or “Writing History”

180621_Neue Rundschau_01Two of my poems, “The Color of Your Skin” and “Threatened by Beads” are included in this anthology of essays, art, poetry and more. First appearing in Red Ink International Journal’s special issue, Standing With Standing Rock (December 2016), my work was translated to German for this edition of Neue Rundschau, published by S. Fischer Verlag.

From the Facebook event page: Publication Launch of “Writing History”. Edited by Sharon Dodua Otoo and Manuela Bauche, who have asked writers, artists and academics about their vision of “writing history” for the latest edition of the magazine Neue Rundschau (S. Fischer Verlag).  As part of the symposium: “New Perspectives”. More information and registration details are available at the Xartsplitta website.

Synopsis: “Hegemonic historiographies – such as those about colonialism – are increasingly beginning to falter, are being rewritten and reperspectived. However, this does not happen by itself, but is also driven by the year-long struggles of activists, such as initiatives of Black people and other People of Colour. How can history be told differently? Is historical injustice comparable? Can history not also be decentered and complex?

Our Film Excerpt in New Exhibition on Race in Dresden – May 19, 2018 to Jan. 6, 2019

Pleased to announce our small part in the upcoming new exhibition on race at the Deutsches Hygiene Museum in Dresden, Germany. Film footage from our documentary film, “Forget Winnetou: Loving in the Wrong Way” (2018), will be part of a critically needed discussion on the origins of the race myth, and the subsequent creation and uses of stereotypes within the white supremacist power structures and institutional racism that is standard operating procedure for European run countries, (descendants or directly) wherever they are in the world.
